<p><b>Key message</b>: A comprehensive review on biochemistry, pharmacology and in vitro propagation in <i>Ajuga bracteosa</i>. <i>Ajuga bracteosa</i> is a plant known for its high medicinal importance. However, due to over-exploitation for its use in medicines and therapies, this plant is critically endangered in some regions of Jammu and Kashmir. This plant has an enormous capacity to cure a wide range of ailments. Although some advancements have been achieved to cure several ailments, such as diabetes, alzheimer, inflammation, etc., more work is still needed to investigate the various components extracted from <i>A. bracteosa</i> to confirm and comprehend its conventional usage and therapeutic actions. Plant material can be multiplied quickly in an aseptic environment using tissue culture methods. Only a few studies have been reported on plant tissue culture in <i>A. bracteosa</i>. The Collection, reproduction, and preservation of the plant germplasm using tissue culture techniques is particularly exciting and useful for the conservation of plant biodiversity. Since plant tissue cultures&#xa0;are devoid of any pollutants, unrestricted by geographic or political issues, and also provide gene containment, they offer a viable and ecologically acceptable option for the production of secondary metabolites of medicinal significance.</p>
