<p>The objective of this study was to investigate the growth performance of different bamboo species under varying N-fertilizer conditions. The present investigation was carried out at experimental field of the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, (Nauni) Solan (HP) during August, 2021 to January, 2022 as short duration study. Comprising 8 different Bamboo species and 7&#xa0;N-fertilizer doses with three replications. The increment of tallest and thickest culms was observed in T<sub>6</sub>-<i>Dendrocalamus strictus</i> with 100% survival with mean value 14.31&#xa0;cm and 2.83&#xa0;mm respectively when compared with other species. while the highest number of tillers per clump increment was observed in T<sub>1</sub>-<i>Bambusa balcooa</i> with mean value 5.57. T<sub>8</sub>-<i>Phyllostachys pubescens</i> exhibited the highest number of leaves per longest tiller per clump and the highest leaf area index with increment of mean value 69.29 and 0.059 respectively. Additionally, it is worth noting the growth increment in the mentioned parameters occurred within the 180 days after different fertilizer F<sub>0</sub>– (Control) No fertilizer application, F<sub>1</sub>- (Urea) -138&#xa0;g Plant<sup>− 1</sup>, F<sub>2</sub>- (Urea) -184&#xa0;g Plant-<sup>1</sup>, F<sub>3</sub>- (Urea) − 203&#xa0;g Plant<sup>− 1</sup>, F<sub>4</sub>- Farm yard manure (FYM) -12,750&#xa0;g Plant<sup>− 1</sup>, F<sub>5</sub>- (FYM) − 17,000&#xa0;g Plant<sup>− 1</sup> and, F<sub>6</sub>- (FYM) -21,250&#xa0;g Plant<sup>− 1</sup> application. When the different fertilizer combinations were tested, the application of Urea at a rate of 203&#xa0;g plant<sup>− 1</sup> proved to be the most effective treatment for promoting bamboo growth during the initial establishment phase. Furthermore, considering soil physico-chemical properties, such as soil moisture, organic carbon and available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (in kilograms per hectare) where T<sub>6</sub>-<i>Dendrocalamus strictus</i> showed the highest values and soil EC and Soil pH was observed more in <i>Bambusa polymorpha</i>. Therefore, <i>Dendrocalamus strictus</i>, <i>Bambusa balcooa</i>, and <i>Phyllostachys pubescens</i> which showed the survival rate and increment of the highest tillers growth and highest number of leaves are recommended for bamboo plantation in subtropical zone of Himachal Pradesh.</p>
