Taxonomic delineation of genus Clausena Burm. f. with special emphasis on foliar macro and micromorphology
摘要
Clausena is well known genus under the family Rutaceae and most of the plants under the genus are aromatic and used in traditional medicine. The present study was aimed to investigate the foliar macro and micromorphology (epidermis, stomata, trichome), leaf venation pattern and palynology of three species of Clausena viz. C. excavata, C. heptaphylla and C. lansium in Assam. The results revealed that the leaves are elliptic in shape and arranged in an imparripinnate manner. In C. heptaphylla and C. excavata, flowers are tetramerous while in C. lansium, the flowers are pentamerous. Star shaped flower bud is one of the distinguishing characters of C. lansium. Stomata are of mainly anomocytic type in all the three selected species whereas in C. heptaphylla and C. lansium, anisocytic type of stomata also found. The pollens are sub-prolate in shape and minutae in size. This study uncovered detailed description on macro and micromorphology and obtained data might be useful as a source of identification and describing the taxonomic status of the genus.
