<p>The study aimed to evaluate the impact of different pruning intensities (0% - control, 20%, 30% and 50%) on the growth, yield and biochemical characteristics of guava (<i>Psidium guajava</i> L.) cv. Shweta under the conditions of North India. For the experiment, we selected uniform five-year-old guava fruit trees spaced 3.5 × 3.5&#xa0;m apart. The study followed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments, each replicated four times. Pruning was conducted during the second week of May with intensity levels set at 0% (control), 20%, 30% and 50%. The study faced challenges related to unpredictable weather variations and potential variations in soil composition, which could impact the overall experimental outcomes. Additionally, ensuring consistent and accurate measurements of biochemical parameters posed a methodological challenge, demanding rigorous standardization throughout the research. The results showed that pruning with a 50% intensity during the second week of May led to the highest number of flowers per tree, size of sprouted shoots, tree height, number of fruits per tree, weight, length, volume of fruits, yield of fruits, number of fruits per shoot, as well as enhanced Total Soluble Solids (TSS), reducing sugars, non-reducing sugars, total sugars and titratable acidity. On the other hand, the control group (no pruning) yielded the minimum results under environmental conditions similar to those of the Horticultural Research Centre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut.</p>
