<p>The anaphylactic and therapeutic properties of medicinal plants have been associated with the presence of bioactive phytochemicals that have specific pharmacological and physiological effects on humans. The aim of this research was to estimate the phytochemicals and nutritional components in the stem bark of <i>Mangifera indica</i> which may be responsible for its bioactive and pharmacological properties and to support the acclaimed traditional use of this plant in the&#xa0;treatment of some ailments. Proximate analysis (nutritional composition) and phytochemical analysis of the stem bark were done using previously reported standard methods. Phytochemical analysis in mg/100&#xa0;g gave saponin 3.19 ± 0.13, tannin 4.95 ± 0.27, flavonoid3.15 ± 0.12, alkaloid 7.09 ± 0.16, oxalate 18.09 ± 0–13, anthraquinone 1.38 ± 0.20, phytate 1.86 ± 0.5 and cyanogenic glycosides 0.77 ± 0.02. The proximate analysis gave moisture content of 6.07% ± 0.12, ash content 2.645% ± 0.29, crude fibre 3.95% ± 0.04, crude lipid 1.54% ± 0.03, crude protein 9.44% ± and carbohydrate 75.97% ± 0.19. The acclaimed use of <i>M. indica</i> stem bark in traditional medicine to treat and manage various infections and diseases may add to its phytochemical and nutritional composition.</p>
