Two new additions to family Nyctaginaceae of the flora of Jammu and Kashmir, India

Boerhavia erecta L. commonly called as ‘Erect Spiderling’ and Commicarpus chinnensis (L.) Heimerl commonly called as ‘Diffuse hogweed’ of family Nyctaginaceae are collected first time from the campus of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu and Vijaypur area of Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, respectively. Both the species are distributed worldwide and are found growing near fields and in dry places near roadsides, mainly in sandy clay soil. These are medicinally very important and are widely used in folk medicines. Specimens of both the species are collected systematically, processed as per standard procedures and deposited in the internationally recognized Herbarium of University of Jammu (HBJU). The species are described taxonomically with a diagnostic key to species along with photographic plates for easy identification of the species.
