Datafication of agriculture through measuring of corporate value and socio-ecological impacts of data assetization in Indonesia’s Agri-Tech sector

The rapid digitalization of agriculture has transformed farm-level information into valuable corporate assets, a process known as data assetization. This study investigates the impact of agricultural data assetization on corporate value and socio-ecological outcomes in Indonesia’s agri-tech sector. Using a quantitative explanatory design with 300 farmers (150 platform users and 150 non-users) across four provinces (Java and Bali), this study operationalized three constructs: the Data Assetization Index (DAI), the Corporate Value Proxy Index (CVPI), and the Socio-Ecological Impact Index (SEII). Data were collected through structured surveys and supported by aggregated platform metrics. Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was employed to test the hypotheses. Results indicate that data assetization has a positive influence on corporate value (β = 0.421, p < 0.01), while also having mixed socio-ecological impacts (β = 0.187, p < 0.05). Corporate value shows a partial trade-off with socio-ecological sustainability (β = −0.162, p < 0.10). Moderation analysis reveals that digital literacy enhances the positive effects of assetization on socio-ecological outcomes, while policy support reduces the trade-off effect. This research contributes to global debates on digital capitalism in agriculture by providing quantitative evidence from an emerging economy. The findings underscore the need for balanced strategies that align corporate profitability with socio-ecological resilience.
