Current and future approaches for managing plastic waste pollution in India: A sustainable pathway

Plastic garbage is one of the fastest-growing waste categories in municipal solid waste globally. Because of their non-biodegradable nature, abundance, and challenges in disposal, waste plastics pose a major environmental problem. India is now ranked 12th for inadequate handling of plastic garbage, but it is expected to rise to 5th place by 2025. Recuperating energy through pyrolysis of plastic trash into liquid fuel is gaining interest worldwide due to its ability to address energy security and environmental concerns. This document provides a concise review of converting several types of plastic trash into fuel, highlighting the outcomes and the potential use of the fuel as a substitute for diesel. This paper discusses the various operational parameters of the pyrolysis process, their influence on output, challenges in implementing this technology on a wide scale, and current technological developments. The analysis also covered Indian government policy on plastic trash management, difficulties, and prospects.
