This study was conducted in the mountainous environs of Ladakh region in India to assess the comprehensive metrics of quality of life in the region. Questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions were used for data collection. The widely used WHOQOL-BREF methodology was employed to study the cross-cultural and intra-regional (block-wise) values of well-being. This method is prioritized through validated WHOQOL-BREF used to measure QOL. It consists of 24 items to assess perception of quality of life in four domains, including physical health, psychological, social relationships and environment. The domain scores are then transformed into a linear scale between 0 and 100 following the scoring guidelines. The utilization of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire in the field survey revealed a diverse quality-of-life landscape across the surveyed blocks. Among the twenty-five blocks assessed, seven exhibited high satisfaction levels across all domains, while seven displayed low quality-of-life metrics. In contrast, eleven blocks demonstrated moderate satisfaction levels. These results underscore the significant variability in quality of life within the surveyed region, highlighting the imperative for targeted interventions aimed at enhancing well-being. Addressing these disparities and investing in essential infrastructure presents an opportunity to enhance the overall quality of life in the region. Leveraging these insights and ensuring the presence of requisite infrastructure could prove to be a timely policy framework, fostering comprehensive well-being which could be relevant to mountain geographies across the globe.</p>
