<p>Solid Waste Management (SWM), which encompasses political, socioeconomic, institutional, and environmental issues, has become a complex issue as a result of the development of our highly technology society and urban growth. It has grown to be one of the most important problems experienced by many nations around the world, particularly developing nations. Thus, this study’s aim was to be cognizant of the social awareness of the Tarlac State University community in the implementation of RA 9003. Social awareness in this study was defined with three domains, such as ecological mindfulness (cognitive), pro-environmental behavior (behavioral), and sense of environmental connectedness (affective). Explanatory mixed methods design was utilized in collecting quantitative (from questionnaire) and qualitative (follow-up interview) data from 378 respondents. Results show that there is an average level when it comes to the three domains explored in this study. Findings in this study revealed that participants have an average knowledge on solid waste management. While they have some knowledge about the SWM, having only average knowledge on solid waste management skills can have a cascade of detrimental effects on the environment, public health, societal aesthetics, and economic well-being. The triangulation done in this study showed that further integration of environmental education and encouraging students and employees to particularly engage in new environmental activities can lead to improvements in SWM practices. Thus, suggested university activities based on collected suggestions and recommendations were presented. It should be noted that this study is limited to a local setting, thus future research may gather a wider scope of respondents, or other sectors are encouraged to be explored.</p>
