<p>This study explores the issue of fragmented open spaces in urban environments, using Bhubaneswar’s historic Old Town, ”Ekamrashketra,” as a case study. Rapid urbanization and modular settlement patterns have led to a reduction in open spaces and a weakening of the city’s cultural heritage. The research examines how these fragmented spaces can be revitalized while balancing modern urban needs with heritage preservation. The study identifies key spatial challenges related to the depletion of open spaces and investigates potential solutions for restoring their ecological and social functions. The research focuses on the repurposing of underutilized land, enhancing urban mobility and accessibility, and preserving cultural heritage as part of a holistic approach. Findings demonstrate that well-targeted interventions can improve urban connectivity, support sustainable development, and help protect cultural heritage. The case study of Bhubaneswar provides practical insights and serves as a model for addressing similar challenges in other heritage cities, contributing to efforts to build resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban environments.</p>
