Background <p>Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major public health concern and a leading cause of cervical cancer among women worldwide. HPV vaccination remains an effective preventive strategy; however, vaccine acceptance among adolescents in low- and middle-income countries remains suboptimal. This study assessed factors associated with HPV vaccine acceptance among adolescent girls in selected public secondary schools in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria.</p> Methods <p>A cross-sectional study was conducted among 380 adolescent girls selected through a multistage sampling technique from two public secondary schools in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State. Data were collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 26. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, and binary logistic regression were used for data analysis at a significance level of <i>p</i> &lt; 0.05.</p> Results <p>The mean age of respondents was 15.46±.94years. More than half, 223 (58.7%) had heard of the HPV vaccine. Overall, 221 (41.8%) had good knowledge, 365 (96.1%) had good perception, and 285 (75.0%) demonstrated high acceptance of HPV vaccination. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between HPV vaccine acceptance and age (<i>p</i> = 0.003), father’s education (<i>p</i> = 0.013), mother’s occupation (<i>p</i> = 0.030), father’s occupation (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001), living arrangement (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.001), knowledge level (<i>p</i> = 0.005), and perception level (<i>p</i> = 0.003). Logistic regression analysis revealed that respondents aged 14–15 years (AOR = 2.81; 95% CI: 1.17–6.73), those whose mothers were professionals (AOR = 3.15; 95% CI: 1.42–6.99), and those with good knowledge and perception were more likely to accept HPV vaccination. Conversely, poor knowledge (AOR = 0.40; 95% CI: 0.22–0.76) and poor perception (AOR = 0.17; 95% CI: 0.04–0.76) significantly reduced the likelihood of vaccine acceptance.</p> Conclusion <p>Although acceptance of HPV vaccination among adolescent girls was relatively high, knowledge regarding HPV and its vaccine remained suboptimal. Knowledge, perception, parental characteristics, and living arrangement were significantly associated with reported HPV vaccine acceptance. Strengthening school-based health education and involving parents in HPV vaccine advocacy programs may improve informed acceptance and potentially support future vaccination uptake among adolescents.</p>

Conclusion
