Case Report: A Well-characterized Pleomorphic Lipoma and Histological Mimics
摘要
In this report, we describe a case of lipomatous tumor with an uncharacteristic degree of cellular atypia, a feature that raised concern for malignant adipocytic neoplasms.
Case PresentationThe patient presented with a lump on his neck that was biopsied and found to be on the upper limit of benign on histology but was later determined to be pleomorphic lipoma through detailed analysis. This case highlights the importance of integrating histologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular findings to avoid misdiagnosis and overtreatment.
ConclusionsWe review common clinical presentations of similar appearing lipomatous tumors as well as their typical course and management. We provide representative histology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular analysis with discussion of lipomatous tumors which serves to add to the recognition of this entity and the differential diagnosis in the complex area of adipocytic neoplasms.
