Aim <p>The present study investigated the effects of forced-air warming system use and warm intravenous fluids on extubation among patients undergoing open-heart surgery.</p> Methods <p>This study was completed at a teaching hospital affiliated on three groups: forced-air warming system, warm IV fluids, and routine procedures. The data, including vital signs, shivering, arterial blood gas, and extubation time in the patients were then recorded based on a checklist.</p> Results <p>The study groups were found to be homogeneous in terms of their demographic characteristics. As well, 63% of the patients with forced-air warming system were extubated in not more than 8&#xa0;h. The main predictors of extubation time in such patients were warming type and shivering, which were positively correlated with blood lactate level and heart pump time and negatively associated with diastolic blood pressure. The final model for extubation time prediction further obtained the R<sup>2</sup> value of 0.415.</p> Conclusion <p>Given the study results, forced-air warming system could help reduce extubation time in patients undergoing heart surgery. Cardiovascular specialists and nurses were thus suggested to thoroughly manage hypothermia to shorten extubation time.</p>
