<p>Travel medicine emerged from the growing demand of travelers. The COVID-19 pandemic taught humans the need of following health standards while traveling to minimize illness transmission. A doctor must provide pre- and post-travel advise in a densely populated country like India with a lot of passengers. Despite many surveys in other countries, no such comprehensive studies have been conducted in India to assess the travel medicine knowledge of health care providers. We conducted a cross-sectional survey on the residents undergoing post-graduate training in Medicine and Infectious Diseases course in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (<i>Ref. No.: IECPG-326/22.07.2020, RT-34/26.08.2020</i>), New Delhi, using a self-administered validated tool/questionnaire. The residents underwent a training program and were again administered the questionnaire to see the effect of intervention. Eighty-five percent of the respondents were aware about the mortality and morbidity associated with travel, whereas 64% were aware about the existence of the branch of travel medicine. Forty-five percent of the respondents have never done pre-travel assessment in the 2-year recall period. 64/78 of the respondents (82%) agreed that there should be a training program on travel medicine in their institute. Among the specific pre-travel advice those related to mass gathering was given by the maximum number of residents (28%). There was significant improvement in overall knowledge of travel medicine post intervention as evidenced by the increase in median score (<i>p</i> ≤ 0.001). This study revealed significant knowledge gaps in travel medicine among residents, which improved notably after a structured educational intervention. The positive attitude of participants highlights the need for formal training in this area. The integration of simple educational tools, based on a validated and published questionnaire, significantly improved the level of knowledge in travel medicine.</p>
