Influence of sawdust substrates and wheat bran supplementation on growth, morphology, and yield of Lentinula edodes (Berk.) Pegler under controlled conditions
摘要
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of different broad-leaved sawdust substrates and their combinations, with and without wheat bran supplementation, on the growth, morphological traits and yield of Lentinula edodes. Five individual substrates viz., eucalyptus, mango, mulberry, poplar and tooni and their combinations (1:1) were assessed which significantly affected mycelial colonization, fruiting morphology and yield. Among non-supplemented substrates, eucalyptus and mango showed rapid colonization and good morphological features, while the eucalyptus + poplar combination completed the life cycle in the shortest time (113 days). Mango substrate exhibited the highest biological efficiency (26.86%) among individuals, while mango + poplar yielded maximum biological efficiency (28.82%) and dry yield (6.33 g) among combinations. Fortification with wheat bran at 2%, 4%, and 6% concentrations enhanced performance across parameters. The 6% wheat bran treatment significantly improved colonization efficiency, early fruiting, and yield. The Eucalyptus + poplar substrate with 6% bran showed the fastest mycelial run (23 days), while mango + poplar combination exhibited superior yield parameters with biological yield (155.20 g), biological efficiency (51.68%), marketable yield (132.11 g), and dry yield (24.53 g). This study highlights the role of optimal substrate combinations and nutrient supplementation in promoting superior quality and productivity in L. edodes. The findings offer practical insights for commercial cultivation of shiitake mushrooms in India under controlled conditions.
