<p>Aonla (<i>Phyllanthus emblica</i>), is an important indigenous fruit crop of India belonging to the family Phyllanthaceae. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the resistance of 13 commercial aonla cultivars/germplasms against rust (<i>Ravenelia emblicae</i>) under natural field conditions during the years 2022–2024. The earliest appearance of rust symptoms was recorded in cultivar Chakaiya during the third and fourth weeks of August. Disease severity analysis indicated that cultivar NA-25 consistently exhibited the lowest average rust intensity (15.29%) across two consecutive years, while Chakaiya showed the highest (48.68%). NA-25 and NA-26 demonstrated moderate susceptibility, whereas eleven cultivars, including NA-10, NA-20, and Chakaiya, were classified as susceptible. NA-25 also recorded the highest yield (99.18&#xa0;kg/plant), underscoring the importance of resistant cultivars in integrated disease management. Apparent infection rate and AUDPC values further supported variability in disease progression among genotypes. Cultivars such as NA-10 and NA-6 showed high AUDPC values, indicating rapid disease progression. Correlation studies revealed that minimum temperature (r = − 0.98) and maximum temperature (r = − 0.94) had strong negative correlations with disease intensity, indicating that cooler temperatures favored rust development. Among fungicides, Tebuconazole 25% EC (0.1%) was the most effective, significantly reducing disease intensity on leaves (14.41%) and fruits (7.65%) and achieving a 63.03% control over untreated plants. It also led to the highest fruit yield (150.4&#xa0;kg/plant), followed by Propiconazole and Hexaconazole treatments. Overall, integration of resistant cultivars such as NA-25 with timely application of effective fungicides like Tebuconazole offers a sustainable strategy for managing aonla rust under field conditions.</p>
