<p><i>Meloidogyne</i> species pose a significant threat to betelvine crop production in India as well as West Bengal due to the losses they cause by direct and indirect damage. The present study determined the identification and distribution of root-knot nematode species and races collected from various betelvine growing areas in the Terai region. A total of 85 samples were collected, 65 (76.47%) were recorded to be infested with <i>Meloidogyne</i> species and the rest of the samples were non-infested. Out of the 65 samples analyzed, 59 (65.88%) were identified as <i>Meloidogyne incognita</i> and 6 (10.59%) as <i>M. javanica</i>. As per the differential host test, <i>M. incognita</i> population inhabitants in six blocks under the surveyed area were identified as race 1 (40%) &amp; 2 (44%). However, populations from only two blocks belong to <i>M. javanica</i> race 2. This indicated that <i>M. incognita</i> races 1 &amp; 2 are the most prevalent across the surveyed area. Different races recorded in present study were not previously reported on betelvine from the West Bengal.</p>
