<p>This essay discusses the development and evolution of the <i>Storytelling for Mathematics</i> project, which emerged from research on Black mathematicians’ academic communities and has grown into a comprehensive digital storytelling initiative, including a collection of 90+ video narratives featuring Black mathematicians discussing K-12 mathematics topics and their formative, educational, and professional experiences. Three key influences shaped the project’s development: family conversations revealing young people’s engagement with mathematical stories, the significance of popular culture representations, and insights from literacy research. Research findings from focus groups, interviews, and community screenings with K-16+ students, teachers, and broader audiences demonstrate the videos’ impact on expanding mathematical imagination, increasing engagement, and providing meaningful representation. The project represents a model for using storytelling to transform mathematics education through diverse voices and experiences, with plans for a comprehensive digital portal to further expand access and impact.</p>
