摘要

Organic carbonates have been demonstrated to be sustainable and eco-friendly solvents for Friedel–Crafts reactions, providing a highly efficient alternative for commonly used dipolar aprotic solvents like aromatic and chlorinated solvents. In this work, we report a green and mild synthetic approach for benzylation of activated arenes with benzyl alcohols as cleaner benzylating reagent, catalyzed with iron(III) chloride hexahydrate in propylene carbonate as a green solvent. This method has generating only water as a byproduct and affords diarylmethanes in good yields and high atom economy.
