Effect of incorporation of oxides and fluorides of erbium/zinc in barium fluorotellurite glasses for photonic applications
摘要
Erbium rare earth ions in the form of oxide and fluoride are incorporated in barium fluorotellurite glass matrix and the changes in inherent optical properties of these ions are studied. Samples have also been modified in their properties with the network forming zinc integrating in the form of both ZnO and ZnF2 in tellurite glass network. Samples modified with maximum fluoride content exhibited higher bandgap and lower density values compared to other doped samples. The effect of increased fluoride addition could be seen from luminescence intensity measurements which indicated a higher value around 850 nm. Similar higher value in lifetime measured to be of 2.63 ms indicates the possibility of increased population inversion between stimulated and ground levels in fluoride dominated erbium incorporated barium fluorotellurite glasses. Upconversion emission spectra showed the presence of two photon absorption process in all the samples. Results indicate the possibility of utilizing these glasses as lasing medium in visible-near infrared regions.
