<p>The objective of this study was to determine the factors associated with the presence of <i>Xanthomonas citri</i> pv. <i>citri</i>, the causal agent of citrus canker, on Mexican lime (<i>Citrus aurantifolia</i>) in northeastern Mexico. Between March 2020 and December 2024, trees were inspected in public roads, backyards, orchards, and commercial nurseries in San Fernando, Matamoros, and Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Trees with canker symptoms, without symptoms (but close to a symptomatic tree), the presence of the leafminer (<i>Phyllocnistis citrella</i>), and variables, such as the month, age, stage of phenology and tree location, were sampled. The association of the sampling criteria, and the municipalities, with the variables recorded was performed by a correspondence analysis for each of the variables. The analyses revealed statistically significant associations between the sampling criteria and municipalities with month, age and phase of phenology. However, there were no significant associations with the tree location. One particularly important result was that the presence of <i>P</i>. <i>citrella</i> during January, July, and August led to an increase in the frequency of positive cases of <i>X</i>. <i>citri</i> pv. <i>citri</i> in Reynosa, while it occurred in October for Matamoros and did not occur at all for San Fernando. <i>X</i>. <i>citri</i> pv. <i>citri</i> can occur in both young trees (1-year-old) and older trees (30-years-old), and its incidence increases during the budbreak phase. These findings provide key information to design strategies of integrated pest management for citrus canker in the region.</p>
