<p>Chilli is a commercial vegetable cum spice crop of highly significant economic value. It has wide applications in the cosmeceutical, pharmaceutical, food and phytofeed industries. Chilli leaf curl disease (ChLCD) has become a major threat to crop production. Exploring host plant resistance is a sustainable approach in combating viruses. Seventy-six genotypes were screened against virulent chilli leaf curl virus Raichur isolate through whitefly-mediated artificial challenge inoculation, followed by screening of the identified resistant sources through graft inoculation. Four resistant genotypes IIHR-B-HP-58 (<i>Capsicum chinense</i>) and IIHR-B-HP-89, IIHR-B-HP-92 and IIHR-B-HP-76 (<i>Capsicum frutescens</i>) with 0 PDI, 0 DSI and 0 AUDPC were identified as resistant sources against chilli leaf curl virus Raichur isolate. The susceptible check IHR3476 showed high susceptibility with a 100% Disease severity index, 92.5 % Disease Incidence and 4900 Area under Disease progress Curve. The identified new sources of resistance in the study will help in broadening the resistance genetic base against begomovirus resistance. Existing molecular markers associated with begomovirus resistance did not show polymorphism in the identified resistant sources indicating the identified resistant sources may harbour different genes against begomoviruses resistance which can be utilized in pyramiding strategies to address the havoc caused by chilli leaf curl disease.</p>
