<p>This commentary examines what parental duties arise from the considerations of a&#xa0;good childhood put forward by Drerup and Schweiger that understands a&#xa0;good childhood in terms of goods that need to be realized. It argues that, contrary to what the authors initially state, there cannot be a&#xa0;parental duty to ensure a&#xa0;good childhood for their children; the parental duty can only consist in making a&#xa0;good childhood for the children sufficiently likely. This is because a&#xa0;good childhood must encompass all the goods mentioned by the authors, and some of these goods cannot be guaranteed by either parents or the state, as children must contribute to the realization of these goods themselves.</p>
