摘要

Intestinal health plays a crucial role in overall wellbeing, a fact that has been recognized for centuries. Only with the widespread use of molecular biological techniques has it become possible to examine the precise composition and interactions of the community of microorganisms in the intestine (microbiota) in both healthy and diseased individuals in greater detail. Numerous studies report disease-associated changes in the microbiome (dysbiosis) and investigate approaches to restore the altered microbiome. This review presents analytical methods for determining the composition and function of a healthy gut microbiome, with a particular focus on autoimmune diseases of the thyroid gland and thyroid cancers. Furthermore, it summarizes the results of adjuvant treatments of these thyroid diseases with probiotics and synbiotics. However, the available data show only partial positive effects of the probiotics used, so a general recommendation for their routine use as adjuvant therapy cannot currently be made.
