<p>The findings available to date highlight the urgent need to at least critically examine the spread of endocrine disruptors and similar pollutants in our ecosystems. Only through coordinated global action can further spread be effectively counteracted and potentially serious, as yet unpredictable, ecological and health effects avoided or at least mitigated. Overall, it is often difficult to transfer existing research findings to real-life situations, which makes it much more difficult to develop and implement binding regulations for potentially hazardous substances.</p>
