<p>Type&#xa0;1 diabetes is understood differently today: International guidelines such as the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines 2024 define the disease in four clearly defined and distinguishable stages. This stage-based approach opens up new opportunities for early detection, prevention, and individualized care. In order to integrate this new definition into clinical practice, this information must be communicated to a&#xa0;broad group of practitioners and physicians, as it represents a&#xa0;paradigm shift in the definition and care of type&#xa0;1 diabetes. Only through targeted education and training knowledge of stages&#xa0;1 to&#xa0;4 and their importance for prevention, monitoring, and early intervention can be embedded in care. In the following, the definition of diabetes stages, current screening options and the recommended follow-up checks are presented together with considerations on educational and psychological aspects from the current ISPAD Guidelines 2024.</p>

Type 1 diabetes is understood differently today: International guidelines such as the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines 2024 define the disease in four clearly defined and distinguishable stages.
