It’s in my culture: what impacts the entrepreneurial intention of university students in a collectivistic culture?
摘要
While extensive research exists on the role of entrepreneurial education (EE) in promoting the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of students, there is limited research investigating the role of family support (FS) in breeding entrepreneurial intention in a collectivistic culture. Based on the social cognitive career theory, this study examines the role of FS as a mediator between EE and EI. This research developed a moderated mediation model to conclude the effect of EE and FS on EI of students and the moderating effect of fear of failure (FF) and collectivism (CC). A cross-sectional survey was conducted to collect data from six hundred and thirty-two final-year students studying in three universities of Lahore city in Pakistan. The survey was pre-tested and approved by the Ethics Committee of participating higher education institutes. We found that FS partially mediates the relationship between EE and EI. An insignificant moderating effect of FF was found on the relationship between EE and EI in the presence of FS. A significant negative moderating effect of CC was found. “This study empirically tested the effect of EE, FS, CC and FF on the EI of university students in Pakistan. This work is original and has not been submitted elsewhere.”
