Multi objective hybrid optimization for secure and energy effective data communication in wireless sensor network for IoT environment

Security and energy efficiency are critical considerations in the design of wireless sensors for Internet of things (IoT) environments. Clustering is the most adopted technique for improving energy efficiency. But the existing clustering based schemes have an important problem of energy imbalance over a period of time. Techniques used for solving energy imbalances are of higher network overhead and energy consuming. This work proposes a multi objective hybrid optimization technique for secure and energy efficient routing of packets in wireless IoT networks to address this problem. The proposed technique clusters the network optimizing multiple energy and security parameters with consideration for energy imbalances. In addition, a light weight maintenance technique is introduced to mitigate energy imbalances. The proposed technique is also resilient to data confidentiality, data tampering and selective dropping attacks. Through simulation analysis, the proposed solution is found to increase the network life time by atleast 6.66% and increase the reliability by atleast 7.4% compared to most recent works. The network overhead for solving energy imbalances is atleast 38% lower compared to most recent works.
