Enhancing water supply continuity: a semi-markovian reliability assessment of multi-pump treatment systems

This study analyses the reliability of an advanced water treatment system comprising two identical displacement pumps and one distinct dynamic pump in a three-unit repairable setup. Using a stochastic model with regenerative point techniques and a semi-Markov approach, the system’s performance is evaluated under varying failure rates and warranty durations. The system operates as long as two-unit functions, with repair priority given to displacement pumps during the warranty period. The results offer key reliability metrics, supporting continuous clean water supply—crucial for public health and infrastructure resilience.
