Displacement decision-making on urban maps: influence of different mental images
摘要
This study sought to determine whether image vividness, image control and map rotation skills influenced decision making when navigating urban maps. To this end, a group of undergraduate students were given measures of image vividness, image control, map rotation and urban map navigation with hits, errors and hits minus errors in urban map displacements being measured. Results showed that individuals low in image vividness made more errors when navigating urban maps than those high in image vividness. Besides, individuals high in map rotation made more hits as well as more hits minus errors in urban map navigation than individuals low in map rotation skills.
