The Effect of Moringa Powder Supplementation on Quality of Sleep in a Patient of Long COVID-19 syndrome Insomnia with Pre-Existing Erythema Nodosum – A Case Report

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the coronavirus rendered high mortality and morbidity globally. post-menopausal women showed various post-infectious residual effects like fatigue, disturbed sleep and cognitive dysfunction.
ObjectivesTo study the therapeutic potential of Moringa leaf powder supplementation in improving the sleep quality of a Patient with long Covid-19 syndrome Insomnia with preexisting erythema nodosum.
MethodsA 60-year-old female from the southern part of India with the complaints of disturbed sleep and reddish patches over anterior aspect of her legs was supplemented with 5 g of moringa powder in hot water every day after dinner for 2 months. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index, Dermatology life quality index, and short form 36 quality of life questionnaires were used to assess sleep quality, dermatological manifestations and life quality.
ResultsThe patient showed an improvement of 52.38% in PSQI, 30% in DLQI, 20% in SF-36QOL scores at the end of intervention compared to baseline, indicating a significant improvement in quality of sleep, quality of life documented through PSQI, DLQI, and SF-36QOL questionnaires.
ConclusionThe current paper showcases the efficiency of moringa oleifera leaves in improving the quality of sleep in patients with insomnia, a long post-COVID-19 complication and dermatological manifestation of erythema nodosum. Current study calls for large-sized randomised controlled trails and prospective cohorts to substantiate the claims.
