<p>Our study on the origin and dispersion of plastic waste on Coqueirinho Beach, Paraíba, Brazil, using a combination of multi-model simulations and probabilistic analyses, has yielded significant findings. We identified that substantial plastic waste originates in China, Spain, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Africa. Simulations with the PlasticDrift and PlasticTracker models revealed that environmental factors, such as winds and currents, contribute to the dispersion of these plastics. However, using the MarineTraffic tracking platform and a probabilistic and Monte Carlo analysis, we showed that commercial shipping is more likely to transport plastic waste to the Brazilian coast than natural oceanic routes. Our results also suggest that more than 90% of the plastics found on Coqueirinho Beach may have other unidentified sources, possibly including international tourism, which underscores the importance of integrated approaches to understanding the complexity of plastic pollution. Notably, the methodology developed in our study has shown promising potential for application in other regions, offering a powerful tool for global plastic pollution research.</p>
