<p>The introduction to the <i>Special Section</i> on the transformation of intergenerational religious transmission provides an overview of the topic and situates the more specific perspectives on individual religious milieus, developed in the following contributions, within a&#xa0;sociological framework. The analytical approach builds on the increasingly prominent perspective in the sociology of religion which conceptualises secularisation and pluralisation as interrelated processes—an entanglement that can also be observed empirically within the religious field in Germany. To understand the analyses of religious milieus and trajectories, the continuing religious and cultural differences between the largely secularised East (the former GDR) and the more confessionally Christian West remain significant. Depending on these regional contexts, intergenerational religious transmission takes place either within the dynamics of secularisation alone or within pluralised religious environments. The contributions to this Special Section highlight, on the one hand, a&#xa0;general weakening of religious transmission, which simultaneously reflects and reinforces the broader process of societal secularisation. On the other hand, they reveal intensified socialisation efforts in particular religious milieus that define themselves in contrast to a&#xa0;secular social environment, framing the transmission of religion as a&#xa0;conscious educational project. Across generations, the transmission of religion is accompanied by transformations in religious self-understandings and practices.</p>
