Verlust und Errettung: Eine Wissenssoziologische Diskursanalyse salafistischer Überbietungsstrategien im Feld des Islam in Deutschland
摘要
This article analyses the phenomenon of religious outbidding in the context of the emergence and current development of Salafism in the field of Islam in Germany. Religious outbidding is defined as a competitive strategy encountered primarily among politicised Salafists in dealing with religious conflict situations. The data corpus for the sociological discourse analysis consists of materials collected from two representative Salafist debates. These are the takfir debate (2008–2012) and Salafist debates on hostility towards Islam in Germany (2020–2024). By comparing the two debates from different phases of the development of politicised Salafism, both continuities in content and competitive strategy in Salafist positions become apparent. While the analysis of the first debate high-lights internal outbidding struggles among Salafists during the consolidation phase of Salafism in Germany, analyses of the second debate reveal interesting transformations in how current Salafist discourse actors articulate their competitive strategies for addressing certain issues – in this case, hostility towards Islam in Germany. This results in new forms of outbidding, which are brought together and discussed with current findings from co-radicalisation research. Finally, the results of the discourse analyses of the two debates are compiled and theoretically condensed. In doing so, it is shown which patterns of interpretation support and stabilise Salafist outbidding strategies from within and how and under what conditions these lead to religious radicalisation.
