<p>Radicalization, extremism, and Islamist terrorism are often portrayed in the public perception as male-dominated phenomena, not least due to statistically sound reporting on Islamist-motivated attacks and propaganda. In political and social discourses, women are often ascribed a&#xa0;marginalized victim role within Islamist-patriarchal structures. The present study, based on 26&#xa0;qualitative interviews with teachers of Islamic theology, religious education, and religious studies, shows that traditional gender roles are of central importance for both male and female actors, but increasingly need to be critically reflected upon.</p><p>The article emphasizes the need to analyse and deconstruct these narratives in order to promote gender-sensitive approaches in research and prevention work. A&#xa0;deeper understanding of the mechanisms of narrative transmission is essential to adequately address the complexity of Islamist radicalization processes. The insights gained provide practical impulses for the development of integrative prevention strategies and for the further development of curricula in the university training of Islamic theological specialists.</p>
