摘要

The complexity of the drivers of radicalization and their impact on the propensity to commit lawbreaking and violence is of significant importance for the social fabric in Germany, Europe, and globally. Focusing on the impact of religious fundamentalism on radicalization intentions, this paper considers the role of three selected risk factors: experiences of discrimination, authoritarianism, and democratic distrust, which are combined to form an index of susceptibility to radicalization. Based on an empirical analysis of a survey of the Muslim population in Germany, the study examines whether there is a correlation between religious fundamentalism, susceptibility to radicalization, and radicalization intentions itself. The results of a mediation analysis suggest that signs of susceptibility to radicalization should be taken seriously, as they may have both a direct and indirect effect on the acceptance of lawbreaking and violence through increased susceptibility to religious fundamentalism.
