<p>This paper presents the first findings from an ongoing ethnography on a Messianic Jewish community in the city of Buenos Aires, attempting to sketch out its specificities <i>vis-à-vis</i> its Brazilian counterpart. With this purpose in mind, two key elements are examined: (1) the synthesis that Argentine Jewish messianism proposes, taking from both Jewish and Christian cultural repertoires, and (2) the singular status of ethnic Jews and gentiles within the community studied, as well as the tensions emerging from the relationship between the two groups. Two other topics were discussed. The first concerns the convening strategies used by the messianic rabbi of the community studied as a result of him being Jewish, which is quite rare in the Latin American religious field. The second relates to the construction of new inter-ethnic and inter-religious borders, resulting from the entry onto the scene of a group that questions the supposedly fixed boundaries of Judaism and Christianity.</p>
