Purpose <p>This study aimed to assess the efficacy of photobiomodulation in contrast to alternative treatments in patients with temporomandibular joint disc displacement with reduction. The aim was to provide valuable insights for medical professionals, researchers, and clinicians interested in this complex condition.</p> Methods <p>A comprehensive electronic search of indexed databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge, Ovid, ClincalKey, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library, was performed without time restriction until August 2024. The Cochrane tool was used to perform the risk of bias (RoB) assessment. This study was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42024572837).</p> Results <p>An initial electronic and manual search revealed 14,252 studies, respectively. After following the eligibility criteria, the study covered seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs).</p> Conclusions <p>According to available data, photobiomodulation has the encouraging potential to improve overall mouth opening and lessen pain related to disc displacement with reduction (DDWR). However, the need for future standardized studies to measure the potential role of PBMT in treating pain and interincisal distance due to DDWR is clear. This review presents an exciting opportunity for further engagement and advancement in TMD management, instilling hope for the future of TMD treatment.</p>
