摘要

This study examines the effect of a newly developed inclusion guideline on employers’ willingness to hire applicants with mental illnesses. The starting point is the observation that, despite their high prevalence, mental illnesses continue to be associated with prejudice and uncertainty in workplace contexts. In an experimental design, participants either received access to the guideline or no additional information before deciding on the employment of an applicant diagnosed with depression. The guideline provided concise information on legal foundations, practical recommendations for job interviews, and suggestions for supportive measures in everyday work. The results show that the use of the guideline significantly increased the willingness to integrate people with mental illness. Notably, participants who had access to the guideline were not only more likely to make a positive hiring decision but also reported greater confidence in their actions and fewer reservations.

Practical Relevance: The inclusion guideline proves to be an effective instrument that provides employers with practical support while also contributing to the reduction of stigmatization. It offers companies a concrete foundation to reduce uncertainties in dealing with applicants with mental illnesses and to promote equal opportunities in the hiring process.
