Location Aware Blood Management System for Donation Camps and Emergency Demands
摘要
There exists a large number of web-based blood management systems for blood donation-related purposes. Upon critical review, it appears that most of them are very limited in their application and user-base. It becomes extremely difficult to collect blood on short notice during urgent critical cases. Hence it is the dire need of the patient party during such ad-hoc requirements to expect help from anybody and everybody. We explore the omnipresent smart mobile devices with GPS to bring prospective donors to the patient-in-need by defining the framework of a location-aware blood management system. The proposed system, implemented as an Android application, enables donor registration, authentication, and geo-location–based matching within a configurable travel radius. It also integrates camp scheduling, donor slot booking, agency management, and workflow-based approval features. The system augments a previously proposed data-warehouse-centric blood management ecosystem and extends its functionalities to mobile devices. The objective of this study is to identify limitations in the prevailing apps and design different location-aware use cases with basic facilities to register, authenticate, and find/ recommend donors within a certain (quickly commutable) periphery of the patient location. The system will recommend a list of available donors based on chosen criteria and travel-distance. Another location-aware use-case for blood donation campaign management services has been incorporated into the framework where donor registration, area-wise campaign planning, camping agency management, etc are augmented. In future, using the generated camping data, it would be possible to profile donors as per location and demography to ease various AI based decisions.
