Improved Cryptography System Using Modified Vigenère and Polybius Cipher

Cryptography is the science of protecting information by transforming it into a secure format. This process can be crucial to offer protection to extremely delicate and confidential records from criminal wrongdoings throughout transmission over the network. Hybrid Algorithms will be formed from the use of different types of ciphers. Ciphers act as an encapsulating system for messages. The earlier methods employ the use of both Vigenère cipher and Polybius square cipher in its encryption process. The ciphertext will first be operated on using Vigenère. A chosen key out of random will initiate the process. At the end of the process, the resulting ciphertext then becomes a message as input for the Polybius square cipher process. The proposed method uses both modified Polybius and Vigenère ciphers to increase the security levels of the cryptanalysis method. This method takes less time to process when compared to the old method. It will be difficult for the cryptanalyst to crack the cipher text. The traditional Vigenère cipher encrypts only the alphabetic plaintext with a 26 × 26 Vigenère table because it includes only 26 English alphabets A–Z. We extended the original Vigenère table into 36 × 36 which introduced digits (0–9). Similarly, we extended the original Polybius table from 5 × 5 to 6 × 6 Polybius table.
