3-D Design Method of the Gear Cutting Tool Profile Based on Reverse Engineering
摘要
In this paper, we propose a new method for 3D design of the toothed tool profile in which we use a reverse engineering way from the measurement data of the sample gear without doing complex calculations. In general, the tooth profile of a gear cutter is determined as an envelope for the instantaneous trajectory of the gear tooth, on the condition that the mathematical model of the gear profile to be machined is known. If you are to measure and cut a gear, you cannot design a gear cutter because the mathematical model of the gear profile is not given. Also, if the gear profile is given as a complex transcendental function, the calculation of cutter profile is complicated and approximate. This causes the errors in the cutter design. The method proposed in this paper aims for directly generating a 3D model of the cutter tooth without complex calculations using a 3D model of the gear obtained from the measurement data. This should reduce the time for cutter design and advance the design precision, when is going to cut a new gear by measuring of the sample gear.
