Politik ist nur etwas für Männer!? – Der Einfluss politischer Geschlechterrolleneinstellungen auf das politische Interesse, das politische Wissen und die politische Selbstwirksamkeit von Kindern
摘要
Empirical studies consistently show that girls exhibit less political interest, possess lower political knowledge, and feel less politically efficacious than boys. According to the gendered political socialization approach, which is rooted in socialization theory, boys and girls often internalize different conceptions of politics and their own roles within the political system during gender-specific political socialization. By observing gender-specific behaviors in their environment, they learn that politics is something only for men and incompatible with societal expectations of women. This study examines whether—and if so, to what extent—these political gender role attitudes influence the political interest, political knowledge, and political efficacy of children using survey data from fifth-graders. The analyses reveal that girls with traditional political gender role attitudes exhibit less political interest, lower political knowledge, and less political efficacy compared to girls without traditional political gender role attitudes. These effects are not observed among boys.
