<p>Potato common scab, primarily caused by the <i>Streptomyces scabies</i>, is an important disease affecting potato tubers worldwide. The pathogen develops rough, corky lesions on the tuber surface that reduce the market value of the potatoes. It can thrive in alkaline soils (pH &gt; 5.2) and its spores can persist for many years, making it management strenuous through conventional methods, i.e., chemical treatments. Biocontrol strategies offer a promising alternative to chemical control for coping potato common scab. Biocontrol strategies involve utilizing living organisms to suppress/inhibit the pathogens offering a sustainable approach. Previously, several biocontrol agents have been investigated for their effectiveness as antagonistic biocontrol agents against <i>Streptomyces scabies</i>. Novel isolates of <i>Trichoderma harzianum</i> and <i>Bacillus subtilis</i> were evaluated for their enhanced potential against <i>Streptomyces scabies</i>. Novel isolates were also compared with commercial biocontrol agents and pesticide for antagonistic potential. The results showed that the novel isolates have better potential for disease control against existing commercial products. Plants treated with biocontrol agents showed improved physiological and biochemical attributes. These ameliorated physiology and biochemistry highlighted the reasons for enhanced resistance against common scab. Correlation analysis also showed that physiological and biochemical parameters had strong negative relation with common scab disease index. Therefore, these identified isolates of the following study have potential for the development of commercial biocontrol products in future against potato common scab disease.</p>
