<p>The grapevine trunk diseases (GTDs) represent significant concerns for viticulturists and wine producers worldwide. Botryosphaeria dieback (BD) is one of the most dangerous, widespread, and complex GTDs, caused by Botryosphaeriaceae species. In this study, the susceptibility of several native and foreign grape varieties, and rootstocks toward <i>Neofusicoccum parvum</i> and <i>Botryosphaeria dothidea</i> is assessed. The outcomes of the detached grapevine canes in a field-based model system design highlighted noticeable differences in the effect of the disease across tested rootstocks, as well as among introduced and indigenous grape varieties. Specifically, the Cherchali and Ferrana blanche varieties demonstrated greater resistance, where in contrast the 1103P and SO4 rootstocks exhibited increased vulnerability. Overall, these results contribute to the international efforts to combat BD by pinpointing grapevine varieties that are less prone to the disease, thereby setting the stage for the breeding of more robust grapevines for use in viticulture. The study emphasizes the critical role of selecting suitable varieties and rootstocks in reducing the impact of GTDs on vineyards, with a focus on promoting sustainable grapevine farming practices.</p>
