摘要

Students are vulnerable to the effects of digital media use on their biopsychosocial health as they face academic, social, and developmental challenges. This study explores the impact of digital media addiction, mainly social media and internet gaming addiction, on the quality of sleep and loneliness among students. Another objective was to test the mediating role of stress in the relationship between digital media addiction, quality of sleep, and loneliness. The research employs an exploratory and relational approach, utilizing multistage cluster sampling to collect data from 417 college students aged 18 to 20. The study employed several measures to assess different aspects of digital media addiction and biopsychosocial health, including the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Internet Gaming Addiction Scale (IGAS), Quality of Sleep (QOS) assessment, Perceived Stress Scale (PS), and the Three-Item Loneliness Scale, to measure social media addiction, gaming addiction, biological, psychological, and social health, respectively. The findings indicate that both social media and gaming addiction have a significant negative impact on the quality of sleep and social isolation. Furthermore, stress mediates the relationship between digital media addiction, quality of sleep, and loneliness. The cognitive-behavioral model of internet addiction and the biopsychosocial model of sleep and health support these findings. This study demonstrates the interconnectedness of digital media addiction and various aspects of biopsychosocial health among students. This study provides valuable insights for parents, mental health professionals, and policymakers, highlighting the potential risks associated with excessive digital media use.
