摘要

The essay takes as its starting point the distinction between saying and showing developed in Ludwig Wittgenstein’s early work. Works of art are among the classic phenomena of showing; in the Tractatus, this is exemplified by the text itself becoming a work of art and thus showing what cannot be said directly. Analogous to the interpretation of modern art, reading the Tractatus also requires the interpreter to take an active role. This perspective is complemented by a current example from artistic practice: a ›tutorial‹ by the artist group NUANS, which translates individual aesthetic experiences from language into images that are subsequently exhibited at the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
