摘要

By re-reading central passages from various courtly romances, this paper examines whether ›text‹ could be added to the lexical semantic options ›source‹ and ›book‹ for the Middle High German word buoch. It proposes the thesis that the meanings of buoch are generated as a semantic interference network. During the establishment of the courtly romance, ›book‹, in the sense of a text-carrying-medium, refers both to the written source text and the product of creative narrative process: the text as conceived and made fast through writing.
