摘要
Historical Semantics and historical lexicography do not so much focus on the topic of the historical change of ›meanings‹, as consider types of use documented in historical linguistic evidence and group them together according to the, not-unproblematic criterion of ›synonymy‹. In a usage-quotation lexicon this goal is attained methodically by demonstrating types of use via quotations and classifying them through organizing commentaries; in a historical-semantic word study, moreover, the historical background is also included. How these theoretical considerations and methodical premises express themselves in practice is shown here using the examples of Middle High German adjective naʒ and noun nëbel.
